The AARP Education & Outreach division published an article titled “Selling Your Life Insurance? Proceed with Caution” last October that was recently brought to our attention since it keeps being shared on the web. We are very concerned with the piece because it is based on information that is extremely dated at best and factually obsolete at worst. LISA drafted the following response to AARP.

The Life Insurance Settlement Association (LISA) today announced a robust agenda, focused on regulatory developments surrounding life insurance and retirement security issues affecting seniors, for its 24th Annual Spring Life Settlement Conference. The conference will be held May 6-8 at the Willard InterContinental Washington in Washington, D.C.

Protections for insurance consumers continue to be a hot topic for 2018’s legislative session. Keeping with this trend, Rhode Island has introduced legislation (HB 7124) that would notify policyholders, under certain circumstances, that there are alternatives to the lapse or surrender of their life insurance policy. Among the alternatives listed is a life settlement. The bill was introduced yesterday and was referred to the House Corporations Committee.
